Merrimack got 13 points from David Schimmel and 12 Graham Borden, as the Tomahawks cruised past Alvirne, 57-47. Tim Cox led the Broncos with 20 points, and Matt DeGrutolla dropped 11.
Mike Fleming’s buzzer-beater lifted Exeter past Nashua North, 76-75. Fleming finished with 22 points. John Pike led Exeter with 25.
Despite a 13 point performance from Cory Varrell, the Portsmouth Clippers fell to Timberlane, 45-39. Drew Smith and Ryan Mills played well for the Owls.
Bill Connolly led Nashua South past Goffstown, 65-49. Connolly finished with 15, while Greg Sullivan dropped 10 points for 15 assists for the Panthers.
Steve Leclair’s last second shot helped Concord edge Manchester West, 55-53. Leclair finished the game with 23 points, while Steve Roy had 8 for the Blue Knights.
02.28.06 Girls BasketballHopkinton beat Newport, 46-44. Megan Beaulieu finished with 12 points, including a game winning 3-pointer in the waning seconds of the game. Kelley Flynn led Hopkinton with 31 points, 23 boards, and four blocks.
Belmont defeated Mascoma, 39-33. Kristi Parent led the Red Raiders with 14 points. Royal’s center, Tonya Young, led Mascoma with 23 points and 10 boards.
02.23.06 Girls BasketballNewfound defeated Franklin, 59-44. Emily Mattson and Maggie Seaver combined for 38 points for Newfound, who will face Belmont in Sunday’s quarterfinal matchup.
Belmont defeated Hillsboro-Deering, 56-46. Belmont’s Kristi Parent finished with 20 points. Libby Dutton led the Hillcats with 15.
02.23.06 Boys BasketballPelham stomped on Plymouth, 107-58. The Pythons relentless offense tallied 15 3-pointers. James Roman, Jeff Maguire, and James Farris combined for 56 points to lead the Pythons.
Unbeaten Central needed a last second free-throw from Tyler Roche to escape an upset at Winnacunnet. The Little Green squeaked by the 2-13 Warriors, 59-58. C.J. Arsenault led Winnacunnet with 27. Tyler Roche had 26 points and nine rebounds. 02.22.06 Boys HockeyNashua North upset Memorial, 3-2. Dale Hurd, Brandon Lewis, and Tommy Mulcahy scored for the Titans. Goaltender Jeff Wilkins had 24 saves.
Keene beat Alvirne, 4-3. At Cheshire Arena, the Blackbirds upset the Broncos in overtime. Sean Gavin netted the gamewinner seconds into OT. Goalie Matt Hilton did not allow Alvirne to score in the second or third periods.
Portsmuth fell to Laconia, 12-6. Tom Maxwell led Laconia with four goals, while Sean Lachance added a hat-trick. Jamie Fralick scored for the Clippers.
Salem defeated Concord, 2-1 Wednesday night. Justin Salamone’s scored the gamewinner late in the game for the Blue Devils. Concord tallied a 37 shots on goal but could not come out on top.
Bow tied Kingswood, 1-1. Brett Borbidge scored for the Falcons, while Corey Cotnoir made 37 saves in goal.
