03.28.06 Girls Gymnastics

Josie Unger of Concord High School finished fourth in the vault, qualifying her as the only area gymnast for the New England Championships. She earned 12th place in the all-around at the state meet. She scored 13th on uneven bars, 21st for floor, and 29th on the beam. Concord finished fourth.

03.28.06 Boys Basketball

Tyler Roche of Manchester Central is The Union Leader’s Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Roche dominated play by scoring 607 points this season. He had the talent for scoring or defending anywhere on the court. Tyler will attend Boston College next year.

03.28.06 Boys Skiing

Owen Carey-Hatch of Gilford finished second as a team in the Division III championship while earning fourth in the slalom and second in the giant slalom. He was the top qualifier for New Hampshire’s entry in the Eastern Regional High School Championships. He finished second in the GS at the Championships.

03.28.06 Girls Skiing

Laura Berger of Kearsarge finished seventh in the Division III championships while earning first in the slalom and second in the giant slalom. She qualified fifth for New Hampshire’s entry into the Eastern Regional High School Championships. She helped New Hampshire earn its team title by finishing eighth in the slalom and sixteenth in the GS.

03.18.06 Boys Basketball

Manchester Central defeated a scrappy Merrimack squad, 54-39, for the Class L boys’ basketball championship. The talented B.C.-bound, Tyler Roche, led the Little Green with 19 points, 4 blocks, and 8 boards. Teammates and fellow senior captains, Bryan Tracy and Joe Fremeau, combined for 27 points, as Central’s balanced offense was too much for the Tomahawks. Eric Anderson, the Tomahawks point guard, hustled his way to 13 points and 5 rebounds. Manchester Central finished the year 25-0. The last undefeated Class L team was Concord in 1998 which was led by future NBA player Matt Bonner.
