11.30.05 Girls HockeyHarwood defeated Brattleboro, 6-3. Ashley Sweet and Hannah Martini led Harwood with two goals apiece. Suzanne Woodard and Brooke Kiendl also scored. Cheyenne White made 19 saves.
Colchester beat Burr and Burton, 2-1. Chelsea Furlani scored both goals for Colchester. Kaitlin Landry posted 17 saves for the win. Chelsea Cone recorded an unassisted goal for BBA.
Champlain Valley shutout Spaulding, 4-0. Eliza Bradley led CVU with two goals and one assist. Kara Robinson and Lauren Nealy also scored and Nicole Bonneau posted 15 saves.
South Burlington topped Hartford, 2-1. Jamie Sheahan and Caroline Andrew scored for SBHS. Kelly McDonald and Sydney Stevens each picked up an assist. Becca Shaw made 21 saves.
Middlebury edged Burlington, 6-5 in overtime. Holly Atkins paced Middlebury with two goals. Erin Butler added a goal and two assists, while Marley Nordmeyer and Danielle Goodrich also scored and Kate Doria came up with 22 saves.
Rice skated past Mount St. Joseph, 13-3. Theresa Fukuda tallied three goals to lead Rice. Meghan Bryan, Sarah Levinsky, Lauren Austin and Kylie Kenney each added two goals. Ali Carney-Knisley and Meg Malone scored one apiece.
U-32 won 7-5 over Rutland. Michelle Bolduc led U-32 with a hat trick and two assists. Erin Fitzsimmons, Rachael Clark, Kelly Whitcomb and Nicki Pickel also scored and Ali Freeman made 18 saves. 11.30.05 Boys HockeyStowe edged Essex, 5-4. Alison Vigneau led Stowe with two goals. Hannah Rose, Carolyn Stevens and Krista King added one goal each and Claire Francis stopped 22 shots. Erika Nichols tallied three assists in the win.
Mount Mansfield won 3-2 over Northfield. Taylor Fargo, Cathleen Loughlin and Hilary Martelle scored for MMU. Kayla Barup and Kristin Knodor each picked up an assist. Lydia Corriveau made 12 saves for MMU. 11.12.05 FootballWoodstock 38, Rice 0: The Wasps got on the board quickly. Jason Harootunian ran 22 yards on the first play from scrimmage and Phil Giampa bolted 52 yards to score on the second play. The big plays continued: a 13-yard TD run by Harootunian, a 62-yard TD pass from Kellan Lewis to Ben Pilsmaker,and another 24-yard scoring strike from Lewis.
Mount St. Joseph 21, Hartford 0: The MSJ defense stymied Hartford, and the Mounties controlled the momentum most of the game. MSJ linebackerTruman Young rushed for 167 yards on 18 carries and had a touchdown. Ernie Bove had 85 yards on 13 carries. MSJ quarterbackWill Hadeka hooked up with Bove for a 66-yard touchdown pass. Luke Steinke completed a 28-yard option pass to Mike Behling for the final touchdown. Carl Ojala had three successful point-after kicks. Aaron Conley, led a frustrated Hurricane offense with 84 yards on 13 carries, and Jacob Van Ryswyk who had 65 yards on 16 carries.
South Burlington 14, Bellows Falls 0: SB seniors CJ St. Ongeand Chris Gilding carried South Burlington Rebels to a second straight Division II state football championship. St. Onge carried the ball 41 times for 195 yards with a touchdown. Gilding ran for the other touchdown and completed 11 of 18 passes for 107 yards. Bellows Falls quarterback Matt Tomberg threw only six times, all in the fourth quarter.
Otter Valley 23, U-32 20: Kyle Pinkham kicked the 28-yard game-winner to lift the Otters past U-32. Otter QB Corey Robinson, Ross Jakubowski, Kenny Parsons and Colby Hutchins had fine performances. U-32?s Ryan Faber played well defensively and quarterbackEthan Sylvain threw a gem to Robert Keene for a Raider touchdown. The Otters captured their first football title. 11.05.05 FootballRice defeated Mill River 43-14: Rice quarterback Josh Danis threw five touchdown passes. Danis (9-21, 176 yards), connected three times with Matt Kreutz. Rice's Steve Degree blocked a Mill River punt resulting in a Jon Shungu touchdown. Birney Boehland also scored for Rice. Mill River's Julian Springer and Chad Ryan also scored.
Woodstock 36, Milton 28: Phil Giampa scored three touchdowns and quarterback Kellan Lewis hooked up with Owen Miller for a 2-point conversion. Woodstock's Randy Babineau and Matt Duval also scored. Milton's Ray Hershenhorn raced in from 9 yards out after Stuart Bell's interception.
Otter Valley 28, Mount Mansfield 0: Otter Valley quarterback Corey Robinson threw three touchdown passes and the Otter defense did the rest.
